The following line chart that shows the birth rate (per thousand persons) and death rate (per thousand persons) of countries A, B, C and D in the year 2014.

Population Increase =  [Population increase rate × Population]
1000
1
If the population of country B is 20 million at the beginning of year 2014, by how much would its population increase in this year?
» Explain it
B
If Birth Rate and Death Rate are given, then population increase per thousand persons will be given by (Birth Rate – Death Rate).

⇒ Population increase rate of country B = (8.3 – 6.6) per thousand of population = 1.7 per thousand of population

∴   Population increase of country B =  [Population increase rate × Population]
1000

=   1.7 × 20 × 1000000  = 34 thousand.
1000

Hence, option B is correct.
2
By what percentage is the birth rate of country B is more than that of country C?
» Explain it
B
Birth rate of country B = 8.3

Birth rate of country C = 4.3

∴ Percentage by which birth rate of country B is more than that of country C

=   8.3 – 4.3  × 100 = 93.02.
4.3

Hence, option B is correct.
3
The population increase in countries A and C during year 2014 was same. What was the ratio of populations of countries A and C at the beginning of year 2014?
» Explain it
C
We know that, Population increase of a country

=   [Population increase rate × Population]
1000

Where, Population increase rate = Birth rate – Death rate

Population increase rate for country A = 7.6 – 5.3 = 2.3 per thousand of population

Population increase rate for country C = 4.3 – 2.4 = 1.9 per thousand of population

⇒ Population increase of country A
=   [2.3 × Population of country A]
1000

Population increase of country C
= [1.9 × Population of country C]
1000

Since the population increase in both countries A and C is equal.
∴   [2.3 × Population of country A]  =  [1.9 × Population of country C]
1000 1000

⇒ [2.3 × Population of country A] = [1.9 × Population of country C]
⇒   Population of country A = 1.9  =  19
Population of country C 2.3 23

∴ Ratio of populations of countries A and C at the beginning of year 2014 was 19 : 23.

Hence, option C is correct.
4
Populations of countries B and D at beginning of year 2014 were 20 million and 30 million respectively. If these countries are considered as one country, what will be the effective death rate (in per thousand persons) of the combined country ?
» Explain it
C
Death rate of country B = 6.6

We know that,
Number of deaths in a country =  [Death rate × Population]
1000

Number of deaths in country B =  [6.6 × 20 million]  = 132 k
1000

Death rate of country D = 1.7
Number of deaths in country D =  [1.7 × 30 million]  = 51 k
1000

Total number of deaths in both countries combined = (132 + 51) thousand = 183 thousand = 0.183 million

Total population of both countries combined = 20 million + 30 million = 50 million

Using the formula again,
Number of deaths in a country =  [Death rate × Population]
1000

⇒ Number of deaths in both countries combined
=   [Combined death rate × Combined Population]
1000

⇒ 0.183 million =  [Combined death rate × 50 million]
1000

⇒ Combined death rate =  183  = 3.66
50

∴   Effective death rate of both countries B and D together will be 3.66 (per thousand persons)

Hence, option C is correct.
5
What will be the ratio of number of deaths in country A to number of births in country C?
» Explain it
E
We know that,

Number of deaths in a country =  [Death rate × Population]
1000
Here, we are given only death rates of countries A and C but not population. Without knowing the population, the actual number of deaths in countries A and C cannot be find, and hence the ratio of deaths cannot be determined.

Hence, option E is correct.

In this article we will discuss What is Data Interpretation, How its important for Bank PO and Clerk Exams.

What is Data Interpretation and how its useful for SBI PO, SBI Clerk, LIC, NABARD etc

In our day-to-day life, data is reported in the newspapers, on television, and in magazines. The data involves business, government, sports and many other topics. It is represented in an organized fashion, making it easy to interpret what you hear and read in the media. Those set of problems is being asked in different kind of form like Pie Chart di, Bar Chart di, Table Chart di, line chart di and info chart etc.

Now come back to the point data interpretation,  Data has to be well organized for it to be useful. This process of interpreting and analysing data to extract meaningful information from it is Data Interpretation. Solving Data Interpretation problems involves the use of basic formulas and manipulation of numbers.
Data Interpretation is calculation-intensive. It consists of a myriad of graphs, charts and tables form which you have to glean and analyse data. The key to cracking this area is to quickly identify the key pieces of data that you require to work on the questions asked.

Problems in Data interpretation are probably the closest in resemblance to the kind of problems you will be dealing with as a manager. They test your decision-making ability and speed using the minimum possible data. They help you to draw conclusions from collected data, support decision making, and contribute to better process, product, and quality models.

Data Sufficiency problems involve testing your quantitative concepts. They usually take the form of a logical puzzle. Instead of solving a data sufficiency problem, all you need to do is determine if the given information is enough to solve the problem. To solve Data Interpretation Questions & Answers for Banking and Insurance Exams like SBI, IBPS, NABARD & RBI Grade B, NIACL, and LIC, you need to brush up your calculation skills; you need to perform calculations faster and accurately than others. The difficult Data interpretations should be solved within 10-12 minutes. The DI of moderate level should not consume more than 7-9 minutes of the time and easy DI's should be finished within 3.5-4 minutes.

In these Data Interpretation Quizzes, you familiarized yourself with the key concepts and improved your problem-solving abilities. At Smartkeeda you will get Easy level data interpretation to High level data interpretation at low cost. Practice and tests are important to optimize your preparation.
