The unique thing in LIC AAO prelims 2019 exam is that the English Language is of qualifying nature. The marks obtained in English language section will not be included in the total marks. So, the total marks depend upon the marks obtained in Reasoning Aptitude and Quantitative Aptitude sections. In this article, we’ll be discussing different chapters of Reasoning Ability and we’ll also be discussing new pattern Reasoning Questions important for LIC AAO 2019 exam.

Mantra for boosting score

The only mantra to boost the prelims score is “Excel the Reasoning and Quants Section.” Reasoning Ability is one of the scoring sections which can be mastered by sheer practice. Higher the number of practiced questions higher the chances to score better. So, aspirants have to practice more number of questions so that they get used to the pattern and topics covered under Reasoning Ability section.

Syllabus of Reasoning Ability for LIC AAO 2019

The Reasoning section is divided into two categories – Logical Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning. Generally Verbal Reasoning is treated as Reasoning section because maximum number of questions in the exam comes from this category only, but Logical Reasoning has its own importance and a it provides a small number of questions in the exam.

Logical Reasoning Questions for LIC AAO 2019

This section checks the analytical ability of the aspirants through the chapters like Inequality, Statement and Assumption, Statement and Conclusion, Statement and Argument, Syllogism etc. With reference to LIC AAO, only Inequality and Syllogism are the ones that could come in the exam. So, here we will discuss only these two chapters.

I. Inequalities Questions for LIC AAO 2019 - Under this chapter, signs like greater than(>), less than(<), equals to(=), greater than equals to(≥), less than equals to(≤) play vital role in solving the question. In these questions, relationship between two or more elements is asked on the basis of these signs only. Inequalities can be asked in the following different patterns.

Pattern 1:

Directions: In these questions, relationship between different elements is shown in the statement. The statements are followed by three conclusions. Choose the correct answer on the basis of information given below.

Statements: Y < X < W, Y < I > L, C = F < L, S > D > C
Conclusions: W < I, S > F, I > C

A. None of the conclusions follow
B. Either conclusion I or III follows
C. Only conclusion III follows
D. Only conclusions II and III follow
E. All the conclusions follow

Explanation –

Statements:                Y < X < W,                    Y < I > L,                       C = F < L,                      S > D > C
Conclusions:   W < I,               S > F,                I > C

For conclusion I: W < I
From statements I and II, we get: I > Y < W
Here, we get the opposite signs between W and I. Thus no relation can be established between them.
Hence conclusion I do not follow.
For conclusion II: S > F
From statements III and IV, we get:
S > C = F
Here, the common sign between S and F is '>'. Thus S > F.
Hence conclusion II follows.
For conclusion III: I > C
From statements II and III, we get:
I > L > C = F
Here, the common sign between I and C is '>'. Thus I > C.
Hence conclusion III follows.

Thus only conclusions II and III follow.
Hence option D is correct.

Pattern 2: (Coded Inequalities are asked under this pattern.)

Directions: Study the following information carefully and answer the questions given below.
‘A © B’ means ‘A is either smaller than or equal to B.’
‘A % B’ means ‘A is neither smaller than nor equal to B.’
‘A @ B’ means ‘A is either greater than or equal to B.’
‘A $ B’ means ‘A is neither greater than nor equal to B.’
‘A # B’ means ‘A is neither greater than nor smaller than B.’

Statements:    P © R, R # F, F @ T
Conclusions:   I. T © R                        II. F # P

A. if only conclusion I is true
B. if only conclusion II is true
C. if either conclusion I or II is true
D. if neither conclusion I nor II is true
E. if both conclusions I and II are true

Explanation –

As per the information given,
1. P © R means P ≤ R
2. R # F means R = F
3. F @ T means F ≥ T

So, the final equation will be, P ≤ R = F ≥ T

Now, the Conclusion I. T © R means T ≤ R
The Conclusion II. F # P means F = P

Let's check the Conclusions now,

http://smartkeeda.com/Myfiles/images/Q_%20116%20Conclusion%20(i)%20Page%20No_%20114(1).jpg

Conclusion II:

http://smartkeeda.com/Myfiles/images/Q_%20116%20Conclusion%20(ii)%20Page%20No_%20114(1).jpg

Hence, only Conclusion I is true.
Hence option A is correct.

(II). Syllogism for LIC AAO 2019- Syllogism is based upon logic and relationship among the given classes. These types of questions check the logical ability of the aspirant.

Example:

Directions: In each question some statements followed by some conclusions. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the given statements.

Statements:
No apple is a plum.
All plums are oranges.
All oranges are mangoes.

Conclusions:
I. All plums are mangoes.
II. At least some mangoes are oranges.

A. Neither I nor II follows
B. Only I follows
C. Either I or II follows
D. Both I and II follow
E. Only II follows

Explanation –

Statements:
No apple is a plum.
All plums are oranges.
All oranges are mangoes.

Conclusions:
I. All plums are mangoes.
II. At least some mangoes are oranges.

All plums are oranges (A) + All oranges are mangoes (A) = A + A = All plums are mangoes. Hence, conclusion I follows.

All oranges are mangoes – converse – Some mangoes are oranges. Hence, conclusion II follows.

Hence option D is correct.

Old Pattern:

Direction: Study the following arrangement carefully and answer the following questions given below.

X Z 9 / E 4 + 5 D A % O P 3 I G @ L 1 W × 7 F S U 8 $ C 2 ?

Four of the following five are alike in a certain way and hence form a group. Which of the following is the one that does not belong to the group?
A. D%P
B. 1×7
C. I@1
D. U$2
E. 5AO

Explanation–

The given sequence: X Z 9 / E 4 + 5 D A % O P 3 I G @ L 1 W × 7 F S U 8 $ C 2 ?
After analyzing the given options with their respective positions in the given sequence.

We can say that the pattern is that second element is second to the right of first element and third element is second to right of second element.

Directions: Study the following numbers carefully and answer the questions given below.

5836 7469 8251 6293 4172

If the digits of all the numbers are to be arranged in ascending order within the number from right to left then the numbers thus formed are to be arranged in descending order from left to right then what would be the sum of second digit of third number from left end and third digit of fourth number from right end?
A. 12
B. 10
C. 7
D. 9
E. 11

Explanation –

We have,

The given sequence = 5836 7469 8251 6293 417

After arranging the digits of all the numbers in ascending order within the number from right to left, we get: 8653 9764 8521 9632 7421

After, arranging the newly formed in descending order from left to right, we get:
9764 9632 8653 8521 7421

Here, third number from left end is ‘8653’ and second digit of ‘8653’ is ‘6’.
And, fourth number from right end is ‘9632’ and third digit of ‘9632’ is ‘3’.
Required Sum = 6 + 3 = 9

Hence, the correct answer is option D.

Coding Decoding Questions for LIC AAO 2019 Pattern 3:

Directions: Read the following information carefully and answer the questions given beside.
In a certain code language, codes are decided on the basis of following rules and conditions.

Rules:

  1. All the consonants that appear before 'N' in alphabet series are to be coded as 0-9.(C = 1, D = 2 and so on)
  2. All the consonants that appear after 'N' in alphabet series are to be coded as 0-9.(Q=1, R=2 and so on)
  3. 'N' is to be coded as 1.

Conditions:

I. If a word starts with a consonant but ends with a vowel then all the vowels of that word are to be coded as '&' and codes for last and first letters will be interchanged.

II. If a word has more than two vowels then the first vowel is to be coded as ^, second vowel as $, third vowel as @ and then repeat the codes in the same sequence from fourth vowel onwards.

III. If in a word a consonant that appears after M is either preceded or followed or both by a vowel then all the vowels of that word are to be coded as '#' and 1 is added to the original code of all consonants. (If after adding 1, the original code comes in double digit then add the digits until single digit is obtained.)

IV. If none of the above conditions is applicable in a word then vowels of such word are to coded as '+'.

V. If more than one conditions are applicable in a single word then apply all the conditions as per the given order.

What is the code for "Parenting"?

IX. Machine Input Output Questions for LIC AAO 2019 - It has lesser chances to come in the exam, but still we should prepare for the worst situation as we have also seen such type of questions in Clerk pre. Below is the very basic level of sequential output tracing that one can expect in the LIC AAO Pre 2019.

Example:

Directions: A word and number arrangement machine when given an input line of words and numbers rearranges them following a particular rule in each step. The following is an illustration of input and rearrangement.
Input: tension 26 releases 18 because 71 you 5 watch movies 61 24
Step 1: because 5 tension 26 releases 18 71 you watch movies 61 24
Step 2: releases 18 because 5 tension 26 71 you watch movies 61 24
Step 3: movies 24 releases 18 because 5 tension 26 71 you watch 61
Step 4: tension 26 movies 24 releases 18 because 5 71 you watch 61
Step 5: you 61 tension 26 movies 24 releases 18 because 5 71 watch
Step 6: watch 71 you 61 tension 26 movies 24 releases 18 because 5

Find the different steps of output using the above mentioned logic for the following input.
Input: calcium 47 makes 56 body 70 more 21 strong glowing 92 10

What is the average of the numbers between 'glowing' and 'makes' in step 2?
A. 46
B. 35
C. 21
D. 26
E. None of these

Explanation –

From the following explanation we get to know that the numbers between 'glowing' and 'makes' in step 2 are 21,10 and 47.

Required average = = 26.

Step 2: glowing 21 calcium 10 47 makes 56 body 70 more strong 92
Hence option D is the correct answer.

Final Output:
Input: calcium 47 makes 56 body 70 more 21 strong glowing 92 10
Step 1: calcium 10 47 makes 56 body 70 more 21 strong glowing 92
Step 2: glowing 21 calcium 10 47 makes 56 body 70 more strong 92
Step 3: makes 47 glowing 21 calcium 10 56 body 70 more strong 92
Step 4: more 56 makes 47 glowing 21 calcium 10 body 70 strong 92
Step 5: body 70 more 56 makes 47 glowing 21 calcium 10 strong 92
Step 6: strong 92 body 70 more 56 makes 47 glowing 21 calcium 10

Common Explanation –

The given output is obtained by following the below mentioned logic.

Change in Word- The words are arranged to the left most end of each step on the basis of number of vowels in the word. The word having highest number of vowels is considered first for the rearrangement. If more than one word is having same number of vowels, then the preference will be given to the word that comes first as per the dictionary order.

Change in Number- The number is placed in lowest to highest order after the word at extreme left end. First the lowest number is placed then the second highest and then so on.

Note- Changes in word and number takes place simultaneously at each step. Numbers are placed immediately after the word.

Reference:
Input: tension 26 releases 18 because 71 you 5 watch movies 61 24
Step 1: because 5 tension 26 releases 18 71 you watch movies 61 24
