History of CUET

CUET or Common University Entrance Test was first conducted in  2010 for admission to seven central universities for 1,500 seats in 41 undergraduate, postgraduate, and integrated courses. From its inception in 2010 till 2020, the CUCET was conducted by the Central University of Rajasthan. The National Testing Agency took over the conduct of these exams in 2021.In 2022, as a part of National Education Policy 2020, CUET was introduced as a revamped version of CUCET and was made compulsory for all 43 central universities to adopt it.

How CUET Exam would be beneficial?

In the past, many candidates had this grievance that even after scoring 99% in Class XII, they could not get admission to the Universities of their choice. This was basically because of the varied typology of questions and scoring patterns across different Boards in the country. CUET (UG) would help to standardize such things.
Earlier, each university had a distinct mechanism for taking admissions into their UG programs. The process was quite hectic for the students. To unify the process, the Education Ministry has assigned National NTA to manage CUET, thereby making the admission process more streamlined, and student-friendly.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) provides a common platform and equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas, and help establish better connections with the Universities. CUET would be beneficial because a single Examination will enable the Candidates to cover a wide outreach and be part of the admissions process to various Central Universities:
Let us understand how the CUET exam would be helpful for the students:

  • CUET (UG) will provide a single window opportunityfor students toseek admission in any of the Central Universities (CUs) across the country.
  • The exam will provide equal opportunities to candidates across the country, especially those from rural and other remote areas, and help establish better connections with the Universities.
  • The Common University Entrance Test CUET (UG) will provide a common platform to all the candidates across the country from three National Boards CBSE, AICSE, and NIOS.
  • In the past, students used to be under stress to secure more than 95% marks in Class XII Board Examination to get admission to the University of their Choice. With the introduction of CUET (UG), the stress on them for securing very high marks in the one and only Board Examination will be reduced.
  • The syllabus for the subject/domain tests of CUET (UG) will be based on Class XII so that there is no pressure on the candidates to prepare for both exams.
  • Marks given by different Boards vary widely on account of the typology of questions and the scoring pattern. These things will now get standardized under CUET (UG).
  • CUET (UG) will be held in the Computer Based Test (CBT) mode where result processing will be done through technology with no human intervention.
