SBI Clerk Eligibility 2026 – Educational Qualification
- A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Government of India.
- Candidates with an integrated dual degree (IDD) must ensure that the date of passing is on or before the application deadline.
- Candidates who are in the final year/ semester of their graduation may also apply provisionally, subject to the condition that, if provisionally selected, they will have to produce proof of having passed the graduation examination on or before the registration date
- Candidates must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the official language of the state/UT for which they are applying. A Language Proficiency Test (LPT) will be carried out for the selected candidates.
SBI Clerk 2026: Nationality Criteria
To be eligible, a candidate must be:
- An Indian citizen,
- A Nepalese or Bhutanese citizen,
- A Tibetan refugee who arrived in India before 1st January 1962, or
- A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, Afghanistan, or Vietnam to settle permanently in India.

Language Proficiency Test for SBI Clerk Selection
For the candidates who lack proof of studying the state’s chosen local language, the SBI conducts a Language Proficiency Test. It is mandatory for the students who do not possess a certificate in the local language. This test evaluates the candidate’s reading, writing and comprehension skills in that language.
Here are some things to note:
- This test is only for the candidates who have cleared the Prelims and Mains exams
- Candidates who already have proof of studying the local language in their 10th or 12th classes do not have to appear for this test
Who Is Restricted from Applying for the SBI Clerk 2026?
- Applicants who have negative reports regarding their character are ineligible.
- Applicants who have a bad CIBIL score are ineligible for the position.
- Candidates who have previously worked with SBI in a clerical or an officer position are not allowed to apply for the exam.
- The current employees of SBI are not allowed to apply for this position.
