Rules for Persons with Disabilities Using a Scribe

Visually impaired candidates and candidates whose writing speed is permanently affected due to any cause can use a scribe during the online examination. The scribe comes at the candidate's own cost. Here are all the rules you need to know.

Who can use a scribe:

Visually impaired candidates with not less than 40% disability and candidates with locomotor disability or cerebral palsy where the dominant writing extremity is affected to at least 40% impairment can use a scribe.

Rules for arranging a scribe:

You must arrange your own scribe at your own cost. The scribe must be from an academic stream different from the one required for the post you are applying for. For the Generalist post, the scribe can be from any academic stream.

Both you and your scribe must submit a written undertaking confirming that the scribe meets all prescribed eligibility conditions. If this turns out to be false at any stage, your candidature will be cancelled immediately.

Your scribe cannot be a candidate appearing for the same examination. If this rule is violated at any stage, both your candidature and your scribe's candidature for the exam will be cancelled.

Compensatory time:

Candidates using a scribe get 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour of examination. Candidates with locomotor disability or cerebral palsy where the dominant writing extremity is affected also get 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour. Visually impaired candidates get the same 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour and can also view the test content in magnified font.

Important: You must indicate your requirement for a scribe and compensatory time during online registration itself. No request for this facility is entertained after registration. Compensatory time is system based. If you are not registered for it, the system cannot allow it during the exam.
