The Reserve Bank of India has relaxed norms for external commercial borrowings (ECBs) by reducing the mandatory hedging provision to 70% from the current 100%.

The relaxed norms will apply to the ECBs with a maturity period between 3 and 5 years, the central bank said in a notification.

“On a further review of the extant provisions, it has been decided, in consultation with the government of India, to reduce the mandatory hedge coverage from 100% to 70% for ECBs raised under Track I of the ECB framework...” it said.

Further, the RBI also clarified that the ECBs raised prior to this circular will be required to mandatorily roll over their existing hedge only to the extent of 70% of outstanding ECB exposure.

The Central government has decided to go in for a strategic disinvestment of Air India's ground handling subsidiary to partially retire the national passenger carrier's accumulated debt.
Accordingly, an inter-ministerial panel, Air India Specific Alternate Mechanism, decided on Tuesday to divest the government's 100 per cent stake in Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIATSL).

The decision was taken after the panel which is headed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley met here. It assumes significance as the amount raised from the divestment of AIATSL will be used to retire some of the accumulated debt of Air India.

A senior government official said the strategic disinvestment of ground handling subsidiary AIATSL will be done after the ground handling unit is transferred to a SPV (special purpose vehicle).

The official told reporters that the EoI (Expression of Interest) document will then be issued.

SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away at the age of 57. Nickelodeon, which has broadcasted the hugely popular cartoon series since 1999, has confirmed the news.

In a statement, the company said Hillenburg's death on Monday was due to motor neuron disease (also known as ALS) -- a condition he revealed he had been diagnosed with in March 2017, BBC reported.

He not only created the character, Hillenburg also directed the 2004 The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie.
