#### Directions : Study the following questions carefully and choose the right answer.

Important for :
1
Pipe A can fill the tank in 6 hours, pipe B can fill the tank in 10 hours and pipe C can empty the tank in 5 hours. The first two pipes are kept open for 3 hours in the begining and then the third pipe is also opened. In what time is the tank full?
» Explain it
B
Let total work = 30

A and B's work for 3 hours = (5+3) × 3 = 24

Rest work = 30 - 24 = 6

A, B and C can complete the work in [ 6 / (5 + 3 - 6)] = 3 hours

Total time = 3 + 3 = 6 hours.

Hence, option B is correct.

2
The ratio of the ages of Esha and her mother is 1 : 4 and the ratio of the ages of Esha's mother and her brother is 9 : 1. If Esha's brother is 5 years younger than Esha. What will be the age of Esha's mother after 4 years?
» Explain it
B
Esha : her mother = 1 : 4

Her mother : Her brother = 9 : 1

Esha : Her mother : Her brother = 9 : 36 : 4

Accoding to the question,

9x – 4x = 5

5x = 5

x = 1

Esha mother age after 4 years = 36 × 1 + 4 = 40 years

Hence, option B is correct.
3
What is the angle between two hands of a clock when it is 40 minutes past 5 o’ clock?
» Explain it
D
When it is 5 ‘o clock, angle made by hour hand from vertical is

5 × 30° + (40 × 0.5)......as angle is increased more for 40 minutes with the speed of 0.5 degree per minute.

= 150 + 20 = 170°

Angle made by minute hand in 40 minutes = 8 × 30° = 240°

So the angle at 5:40 between minute and hour hand of a clock =

240 – 170 = 70°

Option D, is hence the correct answer.
4
The owner of a cell phone shop charges his customer 28% more than the cost price. If a customer paid Rs 8,960 for the cell phone, then what was the cost price of the cell phone?
» Explain it
D
Let the cost price of the cell phone be x, then,

128% of x = 8960

 x × 128 = 8960 100

 or,  x = 8960 × 100 = Rs. 7000 128

Hence, option D is correct.

5
The average mathematics marks of two sections A and B of class IX in the annual examination is 74. The average marks of Section A is 77.5 and that of section B is 70. The ratio of the number of students of section A and B is
» Explain it
C
Let the number of students in section A is x and B is y, then

 74 = 77.5 × x + 70 × y x + y

⇒ 74x + 74y = 77.5x + 70y

 ⇒  4y = 3.5x   ⇒ x = 4 = 8 y 3.5 7

⇒   8 : 7.

Hence, option C is correct.
