Justice Naresh Harishchandra Patil was Monday sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court by Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao who administered the oath of office at a brief ceremony held at Raj Bhavan.

Maharashtra chief secretary D K Jain read out the Notification of Appointment of the Chief Justice. Justice Naresh Patil had been serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court from August 12 this year.

Born on 7th April 1957, Justice Patil was enrolled as an advocate on July 1, 1980, and practised in the Civil and Sessions Court, Latur. He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on October 12, 2001, and as Permanent Judge on October 3, 2004.

The 5th National Summit on “Good and Replicable Practices and Innovations in Public Health Care System in India” will be held at Kaziranga under the aegis of the Union health and family welfare from Tuesday.

The three-day summit will be inaugurated by Assam chief minister, Sarbananda Sonowal and Union health and family welfare minister, J. P Nadda at Borgos Resort.

The main objective of the consultation is to share and learn from the good practices and innovations implemented by different states/Union Territories and organisations for addressing various health challenges and managing public health programmes, informs an official statement issued here on Monday.

Four such summits were held since 2013 (Srinagar 2013, Shimla 2015, Tirupati 2016, Indore 2017) with 300 practices and innovations showcased during the summits. Of them, many have been scaled up as national initiatives under National Health Mission while many others have been adopted by other states after customising to their contexts.

The Supreme Court Monday prohibited the plying of 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles in the national capital region (NCR) and directed the transport department to announce that such vehicles would be impounded if found plying. Terming as "very critical" the prevailing situation of pollution in Delhi-NCR region, the apex court directed that a list of 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles be published on the web site of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and transport department.

A bench of Justices Madan B Lokur, S Abdul Nazeer and Deepak Gupta said that advertisement on this should also be published in the newspapers.

The bench directed the CPCB to immediately create a social media account on which citizens could lodge their complaints directly about pollution on which appropriate action could be taken by the authorities concerned.

The president’s order to suspend parliament until Nov. 16 was widely seen as an attempt to stop Wickremesinghe from trying to prove he maintains a parliamentary majority even after Sirisena pulled his party out of the ruling coalition.

Wickremesinghe says he is still prime minister, and shortly before the suspension was announced he had urged the speaker to convene a session to show that he had a majority.

India's contribution will be used with a "a specific focus on issues of conduct and discipline," he added.
