International Coffee Organization (ICO) under the aegis of United Nations is organizing its 5th Edition of World Coffee Conference to be held at Bengaluru from September 7th to 9th 2020. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India will host the 3-day event themed, ‘Sustainability Through Consumption’ that will celebrate all things of coffee in an immersive experience with conferences addressed by international speakers, coffee exhibition, buyer sellers meets, competitions and awards, skill building workshops, amongst many others.

Coffee being the world’s most favorite beverage with 2.5 billion cups consumed every single day is produced in about 78 countries most of them belonging to the developing countries like Africa, Latin America and Asia. India is the sixth largest producer of coffee in the world, accounting for about 5% of world coffee production. With countries like India, Vietnam, Indonesia, Nepal accounting for almost 33% of the world coffee production Asia and consumption growing anywhere between 6% to 15% as against the world average of about 2% growth YoY Asia has become region of high importance in coffee business. The Culture Department of Uttar Pradesh government is going to organise the country’s first training and performance programme of world famous KHON (खोन) Ramlila, a masked form of Ramlila art of Thailand in collaboration with Thai government. Artists, who will get training from experts of Thailand as part of cultural exchange programme between two nations, will perform at Grand Deepotsav function which will be organised on 26th of this month in Ayodhya.

 KHON Ramlila of Thailand is included in the list of UNESCO’s Intangible cultural heritage and it’s a form of masked dance depicting the scenes of Ramlila. It has no dialogues and background voices narrate the whole story of Ramayana. KHON Ramlila’s performance is also a visual delight famous for its beautiful attire and golden masks. Gaurav Pathak, In Charge of regional cultural center in Lucknow told AIR that a group of officials of culture department of Thailand government and experts of KHON Ramlila will be reaching Lucknow tomorrow and they will train 15 Indian artists in this form of ancient Ramlila for one week. The trained artists will perform at Deepotsav in Ayodhya and later in the other parts of country also.

The air forces of India and Japan are going to conduct a joint military exercise named ‘Shinyuu Maitri’ at Air Force Station Arjan Singh in Panagarh, West Bengal.

The seven-day long exercise is scheduled to be conducted from October 17 to October 23.

With a focus on joint mobility and tactical interoperability between the forces of the two nations, C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force aircraft as well as C-130H of the Tactical airlift squadron of Japanese Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) will be seen taking part at the joint military exercise.

The exercise, ‘Shinyuu Maitri’ will set the stage for an army exercise between the two nations. Following the conclusion of the exercise, another exercise named, ‘Dharma Guardian 2019’ will be conducted from October 19 to November 2, at the Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School in Mizoram’s Vairengte.

Pursuant to constant efforts to create more jobs for the youth by promoting investment in information technology, sector an MoU would be signed between the State Government and the National Organization of Software and Services Companies, NASSCOM. This proposal has been approved by Chief Minister Kamal Nath. It is being considered an important step for the IT sector.

The MoU will be signed by Debjani Ghosh, President of NASSCOM. She is the former managing director of Intel South Asia and, the first female president of NASSCOM. This MoU is being signed in the presence of NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant during October 18 at Indore.

Industries should come up in the state with handsome investment. Along with this, employment opportunities should be available to the youth through IT sector.

Kamal Nath is continuously working in this direction.

According to an IT based news portal MPPost.com, Chief Minister Kamal Nath is going to have an MoU with NASSCOM, the only and recognized institution in the country, of the IT sector. 1. Italy to introduce web tax on digital giants from 2020.

Italy approved a new tax on digital companies, including U.S. tech giants, as part of its 2020 draft budget on Wednesday, a move that could draw threats of retaliation from Washington.

The levy, due to be introduced from next year, will oblige companies such as Facebook, Google and Amazon , to pay a 3% levy on internet transactions, according to a text of the draft budget.

Washington has repeatedly said the levy unfairly targeted U.S. firms. A senior U.S. official said President Donald Trump was ready to threaten retaliation when he meets Italian President Sergio Mattarella in Washington on Wednesday.

The Italian scheme is expected to yield about 600 million euros ($662 million) a year, sources told Reuters on Monday, as Rome tries to find alternative revenues that will allow it to avoid a scheduled increase in sales tax.

2. ICICI Bank introduces new fixed deposit scheme 'FD Health'.

ICICI Bank announces the launch of ‘FD Health’, a Fixed Deposit (FD) offering the dual-benefit of investment growth via FD and protection through a critical illness coverage. The customers will be offered the insurance cover free of cost for the first year and thereafter, they can renew it.

This first-of-its-kind offering in the industry provides the customer a complimentary critical illness cover of Rs. 1 lakh from ICICI Lombard General Insurance Company on opening an FD of Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh for tenure of at least two years. In addition to getting a competitive interest rate, the customers, who are in the age bracket of 18-50 years, get a complimentary insurance cover for a year on 33 critical illnesses. The list of critical illnesses under the policy includes specified severities related to cancer, lung disease, kidney failure, liver disease and benign brain tumor, Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease.

This is the latest addition to the Bank’s bouquet of innovative fixed and recurring deposits under the umbrella of ‘FD Xtra’ which are designed to help its discerning customers to meet various needs and goals at different stages of life.

The Ministry of Shipping is working on a plan to develop a National Grid for Ports based on synergy between the Major and Minor ports in the country. Mansukh Mandaviya, MoS (I/C) for Shipping and MoS Chemical and Fertilizers announced this while addressing the media after the 17th Meeting of Maritime States Development Council (MSDC)  in New Delhi today. The Minister said that there are 204 Minor ports in the country, of which only 44 are currently functional. All these ports have been centres of maritime activity in the past, and if revived, they can once again become important centres of sea trade. Shri Mandaviya said that the Government is looking at developing synergy between the Major and Minor ports so that together they can bring port led development in the country.The Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemical & Fertilizers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya chairing the 17th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting in New Delhi todayShri Mandaviya said that a development plan for ports and National Port Grid will be ready within six months. Extensive study will be done for revival of each port, identifying the specific cargo linked to it and the downstream industry. The Centre will share the study findings with the states so that the non-functional minor ports can be developed and made functional. The Minister called for greater cooperation between the centre and the states to develop the maritime sector.

Shri Mandaviya also said that the coastal shipping and inland waterways sector are poised to play a vital role in the development of the country. The cost effective and pollution free water transport can reduce logistics costs in the country, making Indian goods more competitive in the global markets, he said.The Minister further said that the Ministry of Shipping is planning expansion of port capacity through the implementation of well-conceived infrastructure development projects, increasing the efficiency of port operations through the implementation of a package of recommendations to cut time and cost, digitization of processes to reduce and finally eliminate human interface and to strongly address environment related concerns.He further informed that the conference discussed issues like developing common and comprehensive guidelines for inland waterways barges so that barges of different states can move seamlessly in costal waters. Port security was another issue that was discussed at length. This included security of both major and minor ports. Shri Mandaviya said that international levels of security would be ensured at every port in the country.The Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) and Chemical & Fertilizers Shri Mansukh Mandaviya and  other participants in 17th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting in New Delhi today. The Minister also laid emphasis on the advent of cruise tourism in India and the importance of SEZs being developed at JNPT and Smart Industrial Port Cities at Kandla and Paradip. He also said that establishment of research based institutes like CEMS, CICMT at IIT, Kharagpur and NTCPWC, IIT, Madras will help the maritime industry to get indigenous research and skilled manpower.

4. Maharashtra Highway Police Launch App For Analysis Of Road Accidents.

The Maharashtra Highway Police have launched a mobile application for its personnel to collect and analyze the data related to road accidents in the state, a senior official said.

As per the statistics provided by the highway police, road accidents claimed the lives of 13,261 people in the state in 2018.

"The mobile application - MRADMS Maharashtra - has been developed to know the reasons behind road accidents and also for their detailed analysis," Additional Director General of Police, Maharashtra (Highway Police), Vinay Kargaonkar, said.

"Without the scientific data, one cannot suggest measures, like removing deficiencies in road engineering, to curb such mishaps. Our focus is to minimize the loss of life by making roads safe for driving," he added.

According to him, the app would replace the old manual method used by police personnel to collect spot details.
