The institutes will come up in Tiruppur, the Nilgiris, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal, Dindigul and Virudhunagar at a cost of ₹1,950 crore, and will be attached to existing hospitals in these districts.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami, in a release issued to thank the Prime Minister, said the Centre had approved the six colleges.

The Odisha government has decided to spend Rs 3208 crore under the Augmentation of Basic Amenities and Development of Heritage and Architecture (ABADHA) scheme in three years to transform Puri into a world heritage city.

A proposal in this regard was approved in the meeting of the Cabinet presided by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here on Monday. While Rs 719 crore will be spent under the scheme in 2019-20, the cost of the projects to be taken up under ABADHA will be around Rs 1402 crore and Rs 1087 crore in 2020-21 and 2021-22 respectively.

Indian Railways has launched ‘one touch ATVM’ at 42 suburban stations of Central Railway to render fast ticketing to millions of commuters over Mumbai Suburban Network. Railway passenger can avail the service of this new machine from today onwards at 42 suburban stations. This new machine will reduce the waiting time of the passengers and allow passenger to avoid standing in long queues.

The new machine is loaded with the user friendly and uncomplicated procedure which will greatly ease the load on ticketing system of Mumbai Suburban Network. A total of 92 ATVMs has been installed at 42 suburban stations.

Close on the heels of announcing the re-introduction of the ''pass-fail'' system in classes 5 and 8, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee on Friday said the state government is also in favour of abolishing the ''no detention'' policy for classes 5 to 10.

Mr Chatterjee said since the HRD ministry had recommended introducing the ''pass-fail'' system only in classes 5 and 8, the West Bengal government decided to abolish the ''no detention'' policy only in these two classes for now.

"It is better to ensure pass-fail is brought back in classes 5 and 8 at present. We cannot exceed the brief of the Centre by implementing the same from classes 5 to 10...," he told reporters.

Abolishing the no-detention policy, the West Bengal government had on Thursday decided to bring back the ''pass-fail'' system in classes 5 and 8 from the next academic session.
