Under this unique initiative, any person can deposit one kilogram plastic in the Municipality office and get a valuable sapling for free.

In line with “Swacchata hi Seva” campaign, this event aims at minimizing the usage of plastic bags throughout the district. Bongaigaon Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan who conceptualized the idea, said that this special initiative will encourage the citizens to move towards the goal of “clean and green Bongaigaon”.

Kerala and Tamil Nadu have retained their places as the best states in terms of school education in the country. The revelation came in the Niti Aayog’s School Education Quality Index (SEQI) for the year 2016-17 which was released recently.

According to the SEQI report, Kerala topped the list of large states in India in the Overall Performance and Rank in school education for the year 2016-17 with a total evaluation point of 82.2% while Tamil Nadu retained the second spot with 73.4% points. Both the states have recorded an incremental performance of 4.6% and 10.2% respectively. Kerala and Tamil Nadu were the top two performing states at the national level in the academic year 2015-16 as well.

Karnataka which was at the fifth position in 2015-16 with 56.6% slid down to 13th position in the year 2016-17. Its total points also decreased to 52.9%.  However, Karnataka led in learning outcomes.

1. Delhi govt. first in country to implement Street Vendors Act.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that Delhi government has become the first government in the country to implement the Street Vendors Act.

"Street Vending Act was passed in 2014. The law was good but it was never implemented in the country. Delhi government is the first government to implement it. Under that law, Street Vending Committees have to be formed. These committees have already been formed in Delhi. The notification has been passed in this regard," the Chief Minister said while addressing a presser here.

Lauding the contribution of street vendors and hawkers in economy of the city, Kejriwal said, "Hawkers play an important role in any city. In other countries, there are some laws which is why they are organised and there are no traffic or cleanliness issues due to them. In Delhi, street vendors, hawkers play an important role in city's economy as well as its daily life. It won't be an exaggeration if I say they are the lifelines of Delhi. If they stop working for a day, the life in Delhi would be in turmoil," said Kejriwal.

The officer, who has succeeded Sitanshu Kar, will function as the principal spokesperson of the government of India, the order said.

Mr Dhatwalia was serving as the Director General (DG) Training and Research in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, besides holding the charge of the DG of the Indian Institute Mass Communication (IIMC).
