Aparna Kumar, a 2002 batch Uttar Pradesh Cadre IPS officer, who is currently posted as DIG, Indo Tibetan Police Force at Dehradun, has been selected for the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award 2018. This is the highest National award at par with Arjuna award for Adventure sports in India.

Aparna is the first IPS officer to be bestowed with this prestigious award. President Ram Nath Kovind will give her the award on August 29, 2019 on occasion of National Sports day at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The names of the winners of the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards were announced by the government on Tuesday. Besides Aparna, five more personalities are going to receive the award this year. Public sector lender Indian Bank has announced the inauguration of a new MSME CPC (centralised processing centre), created exclusively to cater to the needs of the existing and new MSME clients of Chennai south zone.
 
In a press statement, the bank said the new CPC, inaugurated by Indian Bank MD and CEO Padmaja Chunduru, will bring all its 72 branches in the zone under CPC’s fold. The MSME vertical and the CPC have been established by the bank to give a major thrust to the MSME portfolio, the release added.

The Union Environment Ministry transferred Rs.47,436 crore to 27 States for afforestation. These are long-pending dues part of the Compensatory Afforestation Fund (CAF), a Rs. 54,000 crore tranche that has been collected for nearly a decade as environmental compensation from industry, which has razed forest land for its business plans.
 
The amount to be paid by industry depends on the economic value of the goods and services that the razed forest would have provided. These include timber, bamboo, firewood, carbon sequestration, soil conservation, water recharge, and seed dispersal. Industrialists pay this money and this is eventually transferred to the States concerned to carry out afforestation.
 
Only a fraction of this corpus had actually been disbursed to States, due to the lack of a legal framework and instances of States using it for non-forestry purposes.

As per the press release, Shagun portal provides detailed information about more than 15 Lakh schools, 25 crore students, and 9 lakh teachers across the country. The portal is aimed at bringing about more transparency in the School Education in the country.
 
The new platform named ‘Shagun’ will provide detailed information about the education system of the country, especially schools, with positive feedback structure for parents.
