Defence Minister Rajnath Singh flew in the Tejas fighter aircraft from the HAL airport in Bengaluru, becoming the first defence minister to fly in the indigenously-built light combat aircraft (LCA).

After the sortie which lasted for around 30 minutes, the defence minister said he chose the aircraft because it was built indigenously and that the experience of flying in the aircraft was thrilling. The country’s first central police university will be set up by the Union home ministry off the Yamuna Expressway in Greater Noida. A ministry brochure said the Centre had given in-principle approval for the university and a 100-acre plot has been identified in Sector Techzone for it.

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) confirmed that the land had been allotted to the Centre at a cost of Rs 372 crore. “The allotment letter for the national police university was issued on September 13 after all formalities were completed. We have already received about Rs 37 crore, 10% of the payment for the land, and another 20% is expected within a week. Once we get 30% of the cost of land, we will hand over its possession,” said Narendra Bhooshan, CEO of GNIDA.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has developed a Management Information System, MIS for stakeholders of Accessible India Campaign. Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot launched the MIS portal  in New Delhi yesterday in the presence of Secretaries of various nodal ministries including Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Mr Gehlot mentioned that the MIS portal will bring all the nodal ministries and States and Union Territories on a single platform for monitoring the progress being made against each target of Accessible India Campaign. He further stated that the portal will be useful in maintaining all the function on digital platform and capture data on a real-time basis.

Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Shakuntala Gamlin, informed that the monitoring of the places being made accessible will become more effective as there is provision of uploading images of such features. The portal is made fully accessible for Divyangjans.

The Uttarakhand government is making Sanskrit a mandatory subject for students from class 3-8 across all schools in the state. The announcement to this effect was made by the minister for school education after a meeting with his department officials on Tuesday.

Sanskrit is taught compulsorily from class 3 till class 12 in Uttarakhand government schools. While Sanskrit’s status as the second state language of Uttarakhand was the primary motivation behind the move, minister Arvind Pandey said it would also help the students in learning “teachings of Gita” and fighting “depression”.

According to officials, lemongrass, agave, rambans, and certain species of chilly and some other plant species have been identified to be grown at areas where wild animals enter residential areas and near forests.

Officials say leopards and bears, along with elephants and wild boars are a major threat to human life, livestock and crops.
