Column (1)   Column (2)
(A) Mr. Joy submitted that this was the biggest flood to hit the southern State   (D) offered to help flood-hit Kerala.
(B) He was arrested for his vocal protest   (E) is increasing dramatically in India, women are actually getting a huge share of it.
(C) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday   (F) since the Great Flood of 1924.

Ensure Context match:

For the two fragments to make sense together, they should be on the same subject.

In the example given above, Fragment A talks about Mr Joy stating something about the flood. Fragment D talks about someone offering to help flood hit Kerala. Clearly, these statements do not match with each other and are incorrect. Fragment F is correct as it has the same context and takes fragment A forward.

Similarly, fragment B talks about someone being arrested for protesting. This context is not seen in any of the fragments in column 2.

Taking forward open ended fragments:

In some match the following questions, the first fragment is open ended and in such cases, we need to check which of the fragments in the second column take the first one forward while maintaining

Example: Fragment C talks about Pakistan’s PM and leaves an open ended statement. Out of the fragments, only D matches the context by taking the statement forward meaningfully.

Should be grammatically correct:

As an example, both fragments should be in the same tense. Let us look at the following examples-

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday Incorrect: offers to help flood-hit Kerala
Correct: offered to help flood-hit Kerala

We had a mentor in Mini Mohan Incorrect: Who will also be known for her prowess in the academic world.
Correct: who was also known for her prowess in the academic world.
The affidavit was filed in response Incorrect: to a petition files by Idukki-resident Russel Joy
Correct: to a petition filed by Idukki-resident Russel Joy

Maintaining continuity:

Two fragments would be good together if the second fragment maintains the continuity and takes forward the first one.

Column (1)   Column (2)
(A) The bank merger proposal is still pending   (D) a lot of threats to the personal space
(B) There is a proposal to link the increment with   (E) a lot of questions around it
(C) The advent of net banking is bringing with it   (F) suspension of disbelief is a required criterion

Fragment A in the example above would have matched well with fragment E. However, the two fragments are not continuous as the preposition ‘with’ is missing here.

Fragment B does not match with any of the fragments in column 2 as none of them maintain the contiguity.

Fragment C has a match in fragment D as both are contextually sound and grammatically correct.
