Born on May 28, 1933 at Koeli village, Singh earned his name in the world of Odia music. He was the lyricist of several popular melodious songs in Odia cinema.

He made his debut by writing songs for Akashvani and came to be known as Rasaraj in Odia film industry for penning more than a hundred of songs that touched the heart of both the urban and rural population.

A blistering 94-ball 151 from skipper Suzie Bates along with some power-packed performances from the middle-order helped New Zealand women post the highest-ever ODI total of 490 against Ireland in Dublin.

Along with the New Zealand skipper, Maddy Green too slammed 121 off 77 balls helping the team  shatter the world record. It was raining boundaries at the YMCA Cricket Club as a total of 64 boundaries and seven sixes were whacked during the New Zealand inning. The score of 490 for four is now the highest-ever ODI total in both men's and women's cricket combined.

1. USA has unveiled the world's most powerful supercomputer titled 'Summit'.

Plenty of people around the world got new gadgets Friday, but one in Eastern Tennessee stands out. Summit, a new supercomputer unveiled at Oak Ridge National Lab is, unofficially for now, the most powerful calculating machine on the planet. It was designed in part to scale up the artificial intelligence techniques that power some of the recent tricks in your smartphone.

America hasn’t possessed the world’s most powerful supercomputer since June 2013, when a Chinese machine first claimed the title. Summit is expected to end that run when the official ranking of supercomputers, from an organization called Top500, is updated later this month.

Summit, built by IBM, occupies floor space equivalent to two tennis courts, and slurps 4,000 gallons of water a minute around a circulatory system to cool its 37,000 processors. Oak Ridge says its new baby can deliver a peak performance of 200 quadrillion calculations per second (that’s 200 followed by 15 zeros) using a standard measure used to rate supercomputers, or 200 petaflops. That’s about a million times faster than a typical laptop, and nearly twice the peak performance of China’s top-ranking Sunway TaihuLight.

2. Sikkim has got its longest tunnel “Theng Tunnel”.

The longest road tunnel in Sikkim, the 578-km long Theng tunnel designed for seismic zone V and constructed at a cost of Rs 45.2 crore, has been dedicated to the nation by Dr Subhash Ramrao Bhamre.

While inaugurating the tunnel Dr Bhomre said the improved infrastructure for NE region has been the primary focus of the Central government and all works are accordingly prioritized to bring in rapid growth and development to the region.

He hoped people of North Sikkim now will have a smooth and reliable rood journey across this trouble spot. He lauded the efforts of Border Roads Organization (BRO) for taking up the project and completing it on topmost priority.

3. Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved procurement of equipment for the defence forces valued at over Rs 5500 crore.

The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Nirmala Sitharaman has accorded approval for the procurement of equipment for the defence forces valued at over Rs 5500 crore.

The ministry has approved purchases of 12 high powered radars for the Indian Air Force and Air cushion Vehicles for the Coast Guard and the Indian Army under the ‘Buy (Indian) IDDM’ category.

According to the ministry statement, the technologically superior radars will have the capability to scan 360 without mechanical rotation of Antenna and will operate on 24 x 7 basis with minimal maintenance requirement. The procurement will help advance the capability of the IAF.

4. Himachal Pradesh has decided to scrap semester system in undergraduate courses from this academic session.
