Ranked at No 83, Kohli is the only Indian on the list, which is topped by professional boxer Floyd Mayweather. The 29-year-old batting sensation earned $24 million over the last 12 months; $4 million through salary and winnings, and $20 million through brand endorsements. However, Kohli’s earnings are less than a tenth of Mayweather, who earned $285 million in the same period.

The state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan approved the Bijli Bill Mafi Yojana 2018 (Power Bill Waiver Scheme) which is expected to benefit about 77 lakh people of the state.

Labourers falling under the unorganised sector in Madhya Pradesh will get power supply at a subsidised rate.

The state cabinet also approved Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan (Sambal) Yojana 2018 (a scheme to provide subsidised power) in the meeting.

Under the subsidised power scheme, registered labourers of the unorganised sector and Below Poverty Line (BPL) families would be provided electricity at a cost of Rs 200 per month.

Rising to the environmental challenge posed by rampant use of plastic, Uttarakhand has banned the use of polythene from July 31, while Tamil Nadu, Nagaland, Maharashtra and Jharkhand announced to become plastic-free states.

The state governments expressed their resolve to end the menace as India played global host to 2018 World Environment Day celebrations with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution”.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami told the state Assembly that his government would ban the use of plastic items, including non-biodegradable carry bags, from January 2019 to “gift a plastic-free” state to future generations. Plastic sachets used to pack milk, curd and oil, besides those used to wrap medical products, would be exempt.

Ronaldo ($108 million) drops to third this year, with longtime rival Lionel Messi ($111 million) edging him out, after signing a new contract.

The Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) international Airport located near Varanasi is all set to undergo a unique revamp. The airport runway will soon have a national highway running under it which will make it India's first ever airport runway with such a unique feature.

The runway will soon be extended to 4,075m from the current 2750m which will enable the LBS International Airport to host big cargo and Boeing planes. NH-56 which will run under the airport runway will be converted to a four-lane road. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has already given a thumbs up to the project.

The alignment of the Varanasi-Lucknow highway will be kept intact.

On the basis of an assessment of the current and evolving macroeconomic situation at its meeting today, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) decided to increase the policy repo rate under the liquidity adjustment facility (LAF) by 25 basis points to 6.25 per cent. Consequently, the reverse repo rate under the LAF stands adjusted to 6.0 per cent, and the marginal standing facility (MSF) rate and the Bank Rate to 6.50 per cent.

The decision of the MPC is consistent with the neutral stance of monetary policy in consonance with the objective of achieving the medium-term target for consumer price index (CPI) inflation of 4 per cent within a band of +/- 2 per cent, while supporting growth. The main considerations underlying the decision are set out in the statement below.
