Railway's Online Travel Portal - www.irctc.co.in has now launched beta version of its new User Interface in line with Union Minister of Railways Shri Piyush Goyal's vision to ensure better user experience by recommending best Information Technology industry practices.

The new link has more user friendly features for easier navigation.

The 'Digital India' initiative has paved way for government organizations to harness power of technology and in making lives easier for citizens of India. By creating Next Generation e-Ticketing (NGeT) system the new online ticket booking system of Railways provides easy and fast way of booking rail tickets by automating the journey planning and purchase of tickets.

E-ticketing today constitutes about two third of total reserved tickets on Indian Railways.

Salient features of the New User Interface:

With the launch of new interface of e-Ticketing Website, user can now enquire / search trains and check availability of seats without login also, thereby saving precious time of the users. User can now change font size throughout the website for comfortable viewing experience.

1. Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 58.9 crore on ICICI Bank.

The Reserve Bank of India has imposed a penalty of Rs 58.9 crore on the country's leading private sector lender ICICI Bank for violating central bank's directions pertaining to direct sale of securities.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed through an order dated March 26, 2018, a monetary penalty of Rs 589 million on ICICI Bank Limited for non-compliance with directions issued on direct sale of securities from its HTM (held-to-maturity) portfolio and specified disclosure in this regard.

2. Andhra Pradesh Government appointed shuttler Kidambi Srikanth as a Deputy Collector.

Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth was recently appointed as a Deputy Collector by the Andhra Pradesh government.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu handed over the appointment letter to him in Amravati in the presence of former All-England champion and celebrated badminton coach Pullela Gopichand.

The Chief Minister also congratulated Srikanth for recently receiving Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India.

After bagging the title at the Indonesian Championship in June last year, Srikanth was felicitated by Naidu in Vijayawada and was also promised a government job.

Thampi had been selected for the award by a panel headed by actor Madhu, director Satyan Anthikkad, producer Siyad Kokker, Kerala State Chalathira Academy chairman Kamal, and Culture Secretary Rani George.

5. The cabinet has given its approval to the agreement between India and Canada to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.

The Union Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi has recently given its ex-post facto approval to he MoU between India and Canada to boost bilateral cooperation in the field of Intellectual Property Rights.

The MoU establishes a broad and flexible framework through which both countries can exchange best practices and work together on training programs and technical exchanges to raise awareness on IPRs and better protect intellectual property rights (IPRs).

6. Jawad Rahim has been appointed as acting chairperson National Green Tribunal (NGT).

The Supreme Court has recently appointed Justice Jawad Rahim, judicial member of National Green Tribunal (NGT), as the acting chairperson of the green panel.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said that the new acting chairperson will discharge his duties until a regular appointment is made and will take part in selection process of other members of the NGT.

7. Long term capital gains tax is to come into effect from April 1.

Several Budget proposals, including the reintroduction of tax on long term capital gains (LTCG) exceeding Rs 1 lakh from sale of shares, will kick in from April 1, the beginning of 2018-19 financial year.

Besides, other tax proposals like reduced corporate tax of 25 per cent on businesses on a turnover of up to Rs 250 crore and a standard deduction of Rs 40,000 in lieu of transport allowance and medical reimbursement, will come into effect from Sunday.

While the exemption limit on income from interest for senior citizens has been raised five times to Rs 50,000 per year, that for health insurance premium and medical expenditure has been raised to Rs 50,000 from Rs 30,000, respectively under section 80D of the I-T Act.

8. Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of 55770 fully covered tribal habitations with the safe drinking water in the country.

The Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has informed that under the Scheme ‘National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP), 10% of the total allocation of funds is earmarked to be used for the supply of drinking water to Scheduled Tribe (ST) dominated habitations.

Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of 55770 fully covered tribal habitations with the safe drinking water in the country followed by Odisha 52427, Jharkhand 53476 numbers of habitations.

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has been selected to host this edition. The first edition of this event held last year which recorded nearly 40 thousand participants.
