IBPS PO Interview stage and final selection process
Candidates who qualify for the Mains exam move to the personal interview round, and it carries 100 marks. For the final selection, the candidate must score at least 40% (relaxed to 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories) in the interview. The interview goes on for 15 to 20 minutes, where a panel of banking officials asks questions about the candidate’s background, banking sector, current affairs, and general awareness.
Final Selection & Merit List Calculation
The final merit list is made using the Mains marks and interview marks with a weightage ratio of 80:20. This is how the final score is calculated:
- Prelims marks are not considered because the Prelims exam is qualifying nature.
- Only the candidates who have cleared the Mains and interview rounds separately are eligible.
- The combined score (out of 100), where Mains marks account for 80% of the score and interview marks account for 20% of the score.

How to Prepare for IBPS PO 2026 – Smart Strategy for Success
Having a study plan
Creating a structured study plan and following it diligently is essential to covering the vast IBPS PO syllabus within a few months of preparation. This allows you to start practicing with Mock Tests early on.
Reliable study materials
Use standard books (e.g. RS Aggarwal, Lucent, Arihant) and practice previous years’ question papers to understand the exam pattern and latest trends.
Focus on General Awareness
Aspirants should be well aware of the latest developments in banking, finance, and current affairs in order to crack IBPS PO 2026. Reading newspapers, financial magazines, and government reports is necessary to be able to do well in the General Awareness section.
Regular Mock Tests and Performance Analysis
Once you complete the entire syllabus, it is advised to start attempting Mock Tests regularly to increase your speed, reduce your reaction time, and maintain accuracy throughout the exam. Take full-length mock tests every week to evaluate your preparation. Review your mistakes thoroughly, as it helps you identify your weak areas.
Master Time Management Strategies
Learn to allocate time efficiently during exams. Targeting the low-hanging fruit like alphanumeric series, blood relations, coding-decoding, etc., helps you build confidence before moving to harder topics. Similarly, in Quantitative Aptitude, target topics like approximation are quadratic equations that are easier to master.
Create concise notes
Make notes of tricks and formulas and revise them regularly. These will be invaluable for quick revision sessions before the exam

The IBPS PO 2026 admit cards will be made available on the Institute of Banking & Personnel Selection's (IBPS) official website, ibps.in. To download their admit cards, candidates only need to log in with their registration number and birthday.
How are cut-offs calculated?
The IBPS PO cut-offs are calculated after considering various factors like:
- Number of vacancies released that year: The cut-off marks are generally lower when the number of openings is high and higher when the number of openings is lower.
- The level of difficulty in Prelims and Mains exams: Cut-off marks go lower if the difficulty level is higher than in previous years.
- Number of applicants that year: A huge number of applications increases the competition, thereby increasing the cut-off marks.
- Category reservation and normalization: The cut-off varies based on category-wise reservations, with relaxation provided for SC, ST, OBC, and EWS candidates. Additionally, the normalization process ensures fairness by adjusting scores across different shifts to balance difficulty variations.
IBPS PO Cut Off 2026
The minimum scores required for candidates to pass each exam stage are the IBPS PO 2026 cutoff marks. These marks are declared after the results of every phase. The cut-off changes depending on the stage, section, and category of the candidate. Only those who pass both section-wise and overall cut-off marks can move ahead. You can check the previous year IBPS PO cut-off below for reference.
