The table below shows the ratio of books sold and unsold within each division.
Divisions Sold : Unsold
A 7 : 5
B 9 : 4
C 11 : 3
D 5 : 3
E 11 : 9
F 5 : 1

Across divisions, M/s. Granthbhavan Pvt. Ltd. managed to publish 130000 books in all in the last three months.
What is the difference between the number of books sold by division C and the total number of books remaining unsold in divisions F and B together?
» Explain it
Number of books sold by division C

= 130000 ×  50.4  ×  11  = 14300
360 14

Number of books unsold by division F
= 130000 ×  54  ×  1  = 3250
360 6

Number of books unsold by division B
= 130000 ×  61.2  ×  4  = 6800
360 13

∴ Required difference = 14300 − (3250 + 6800) = 4250

Hence, option B is correct.
What is the ratio between the total number of books sold by division A to the total unsold books in divisions A and D?
» Explain it
Number of books sold by division A

= 130000 ×  75.6  ×  7  = 15925
360 12

Number of books unsold by division A
= 130000 ×  75.6  ×  5  = 11375
360 12

Number of books unsold by division D
= 130000 ×  28.8  ×  3  = 3900
360 8

∴ Required ratio = 15925 : (11375 + 3900) = 15925 : 15275 = 637 : 611 = 49 : 47

Hence, option D is correct.
By what approximate percent is the number of books sold by division B more than the number of books sold by division D?
» Explain it
Number of books sold by division B

= 130000 ×  61.2  ×  9  = 15300
360 13

Number of books sold by division D
= 130000 ×  28.8  ×  5  = 6500
360 8

∴ Reqd. % =  15300 – 6500  × 100 = 135% (approx.)

Hence, option E is correct.
What is the average of the total books sold by divisions E and F and the books lying unsold in divisions A and C?
» Explain it
Number of books sold by division E

= 130000 ×  90  ×  11  = 17875
360 20

Number of books sold by division F
= 130000 ×  54  ×  5  = 16250
360 6

Number of books lying unsold in division A = 11375 Number of books sold by division C
= 130000 ×  50.4  ×  3  = 3900
360 14

∴ Reqd. average =  17875 + 16250 + 11375 + 3900  =  49400  = 12350
4 4

Hence, option C is correct.
Granthbhavan’s total count of published books fell by 9% in the next set of three months. If one-fourth of these books were published by division E, how many books did the other divisions publish?
» Explain it
Number of books published by Granthbhavan in the next set of three months = 91% of 130000 = 118300
Since division E published one-fourth of these (i.e. 25%), the remaining divisions published 75% of the total books published.
∴ Number of books published by the remaining divisions = 0.75 × 118300 = 88725
Hence, option A is correct.
